Heritage Foundation Applauds President Trump’s Move to End California’s EV Mandate

WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation today released the following statement from Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment at Heritage, applauding President Donald J. Trump for signing legislation that prohibits California from enacting a controversial electric vehicle (EV) mandate that unfairly restricts Americans’ access to reliable, affordable cars:

“President Trump’s action to roll back California’s Clean Air Act waiver through the Congressional Review Act permanently restores a unified national auto policy and protects American consumers from losing access to popular and affordable gas-powered vehicles. This move halts California’s attempt to dictate vehicle standards for the entire country and reaffirms Congress’s intent for consistent, nationwide regulations.

“By ending California’s ability to impose its EV mandate, President Trump has safeguarded hundreds of thousands of American auto jobs and preserved access to safe, diverse vehicle options. This decision ensures transportation choices and economic stability.

“California’s forced EV transition would have strained our power grid and deepened U.S. dependence on China for critical minerals. President Trump’s rollback of the waiver is a win for national security, energy reliability, and common-sense policymaking.”
