Description
Located in the South Caucasus, Georgia sits at an important geographical and cultural crossroads. Since Russia's invasion in 2008 and the subsequent illegal occupation of 20% of its territory which continues today, Georgia has strived to integrate into the transatlantic community. It is a candidate to join NATO and has proven to be a staunch U.S. ally in places like Afghanistan. The Trump Administration has deepened the U.S.-Georgian relationship. Vice President Mike Pence made an early visit last summer to Georgia. The recent sale of much needed Javelin antitank missiles marks a milestone in the relationship. How should the U.S.-Georgian alliance and strategic partnership continue to strengthen? What is Georgia's strategy leading up to the NATO summit in July? What is Russia doing to undermine Georgia's European and transatlantic aspirations? What is and will be Georgia's role and place in the regional, European, and international security order? Join us as we address these issues and more.
